Cristina Mariotti

Cristina Mariotti studied Modern Languages and Literature (Major: English and German) at Pavia University. From 1996 to 2001 she taught English and German and did research in EFL teaching methodology. In 2001 she got her State Teaching Qualification and in 2005 her Ph.D. in Linguistics. The dissertation was on Negotiated interactions and negative feedback in English-medium instructional settings. In 2008 she became a Researcher in English Language and Linguistics. She teaches English at the Faculty of Political Science, Pavia University.
Research Interests
She has done research in the cognitive processes involved in the content-based learning of English and has published CLIL teaching materials. She has then expanded her interests to English-medium instruction in academic settings and English as a Lingua Franca (ELF). Currently she is working on the following topics:
• differences/similarities in the discursive strategies of native-speaking/non-native speaking teachers of English;
• definitions of English language users versus learners
• incidental acquisition in English-medium Instruction.
