Elin Emilsson

Location: Mexico

Icelandic citizen, born in Brazil of Icelandic parents, has lived in Mexico for the last forty years, and has studied in the United States, Mexico and France. Has worked in the field of applied linguistics and related areas for almost thirty years at the National University of Mexico, at various public institutions in Mexico, and is presently at the Pedagogical University of Mexico. Has held academic as well as administrative positions, such as Program Officer for the Fulbright Foundation in Mexico, and now, Program Coordinator for English Language Teacher Development at the National Pedagogical University. Holds degrees in Anthropology and Linguistics (BA), Latinamerican Studies (MA), Language Sciences –Discourse Analysis. (Master), and has studied towards a PhD in Language Sciences – discourse analysis. Fields of interest: language teaching (English, Spanish, Portuguese, Indigenous Languages of Mexico), literacy training, curriculum and materials development, teacher development and research in discourse analysis. Publications: 14 textbooks as coauthor for ESP, General English, Portuguese SP, Spanish as a foreign language, Literacy development and Indigenous languages of Mexico. Belongs to various professional organizations, and is presently Regional Delegate for the Latinamerican Association of Discourse Studies (ALED). Regularly integrates the Content Based Language Instruction Approach, plus a Discourse Analytic perspective into curriculum and materials development projects, covering such diverse topics and settings as a Manual for Citizen Organization, materials for English at Middle Schools in Central America, Spanish as a Second Language in an Intercultural Bilingual Elementary School for speakers of P’urhépecha, and Spanish and Cultural contents for Foreigners in Mexico.
