I have been involved in international education for over twenty years and am active in several professional organizations. I am currently a board member of the ICLHE Association and a founding committee member of the ICLHE East Asia chapter. In 2019, I completed a two-year term as Co-chair of the Japan Special Interest Group of NAFSA, Association of International Educators.

I am interested in the internationalization of higher education and the crossing of cultural boundaries. My focus is on Japan, a country that I've had the fortune of living in multiple times since 1998. My research particularly looks at English-medium instruction and student mobility, and at the benefits these can bring to national policy objectives.

I am currently an associate at Oxford EMI and help to promote and develop EMI training programs. I also consult and provide monitoring and evaluation services for educational projects. I am based in Singapore. Previously, as an associate professor at Meiji University in Tokyo, I taught internationally-oriented courses and led field study and study abroad programs. I have completed fellowships with the Council on Foreign Relations and Pacific Forum CSIS, working on Japan-U.S. education issues. In the past, I worked as a language instructor, teacher trainer, and cross-cultural communication specialist in countries across Asia, in Europe and in the United States.

I was born in the U.K., and have lived and worked in Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Germany, the U.S. and the U.K. I hold an Ed.D in Educational Administration and Policy Studies from the George Washington University, an MA in Linguistics from the University of Surrey, and a BA in Modern Languages from the University of East Anglia.
