Abstract:

Although EMI has been widely examined within applied linguistics, fewer accounts capture the perspectives of those who navigate both research and classroom practice. Drawing on my experience as an EMI researcher, a professional development designer, and more recently as an EMI practitioner, this presentation explores how key EMI frameworks have been operationalized in my curriculum design and pedagogical practices within a Colombian higher education context. This work is informed by a range of EMI-related perspectives that have shaped my pedagogical and curricular decisions, including disciplinary literacies (e.g., Airey, 2011; Dafouz, 2025; Dafouz & Smit, 2020), the integration of content and language in multilingual contexts (e.g., Dimova & Kling, 2020; Dalton-Puffer, 2011, 2013; Wilkinson & Walsh, 2015), approaches to EMI and CLIL assessment (e.g., Curle & Koçer, 2025; Pun et al., 2025; Morton, 2019, 2020), and critical perspectives on EMI (e.g., Kuteeva, 2020; Mirhosseini & De Costa, 2025; Sahan &…
