We are thrilled to shine a spotlight on the Early Career Researchers (ECR) who have been recognised with our ECR Conference Grants for their outstanding contributions and innovative projects in the ICLHE field.
Meet the Awardees
Irene Soriano Flores: ‘Using Spanish during the office hours was a gift from God because I understood the content much better’: Student views on translanguaging practices in EMEMUS. Irene's research takes us into the heart of translanguaging practices, exploring how students experience content instruction when allowed to use their full linguistic repertoire. Her project opens the door to understanding how language-flexible environments can empower learning.
Marcello Kremer: 'Designing Effective Faculty Training for Intercultural Competence in EMI Contexts: Insights from Portugal and Brazil' Marcello investigates intercultural competence among faculty in English-Medium Instruction (EMI) environments, uncovering best practices from educational contexts in Portugal and Brazil. His findings promise to help institutions cultivate more inclusive and globally-minded classrooms.
Marie Vander Borght: 'EMI Teachers’ Language Support Needs Across Contexts: Cause for Tensions and Opportunities for Inclusion' Marie brings insight into the real-world needs faced by EMI teachers. By mapping sources of tension and highlighting opportunities for increased inclusion, her research supports better language support systems that benefit both teachers and students.
Mladen Marinac: 'Navigating EMI lecturers’ teaching anxiety: Insights and implications for support' Mladen addresses the challenge of teaching anxiety among EMI lecturers, providing valuable recommendations for support structures that can reduce stress and enhance teaching quality in multilingual classrooms.
We are proud to honour these early career scholars for their dedication, creativity, and the impact their work brings to the ICLHE community. Their projects exemplify the innovative spirit that lies at the core of our association.
Congratulations to all our awardees! Join us at ICLHE in Brazil as we find out more as our awardees present their findings at upcoming ICLHE conference in Brazil.
